Run NS2 Example in Ubuntu 10.10 easier

One of the problem in installing NS-2 in ubuntu is that it will be installed in other folder automatically.

Problem

There are two problem occured with this kind of installation.

1. The path are too long. In my case the path for the ns2 examples are located at : usr/share/doc/ns2/examples/. It means that we need to do more clicking to reach that folder. Or if we are going to run through console, we need to cd to longer sentence.
2. The simulation script cannot be executed due to read/write and access properties of the installed folder. You need to logged in in administrator mode to access the file. 

Solution

Luckily the solution is quite simple. Killing two birds with one stone. What I did is really simple, I copied the examples folder and paste it at the Desktop. It solved both problem! :)

Easy NS2 Installation in Ubuntu

NS2 installation is quite a troublesome process before. There are a lot of step to be done, and a few errors encountered during installation process were quite frustrating. After installation you need to edit bash profile.

You can search NS2 from ubuntu software centre. and click install!

do not forget to install the documentation and examples too.

After that please test whether the ns interpreter is working or not by running ns interpreter in the terminal.

NS2 Installing Network Animator From Ubuntu

Now it is really easy to install NAM - network animator in Ubuntu.

I accidentally found the nam while installing Tcl distribution.

If you want to install nam in ubuntu.

1. Open the ubuntu software centre and search for nam.

2. Just click the install button.

3. Test whether the installation is successful or not by typing nam at the linux terminal.
